Who is On the Executive Committee, How Do They Get There, and What Do They Do?



Executive Committee (all)

  • Members in good standing for at least two years
  • Take office at the beginning of the fiscal year, except Conference Vice Chair
  • May be removed by a two-thirds vote
  • Meet monthly and at Annual Conference
  • Receives Internal Audit report
  • Establish committees, task forces, or advisory groups (not considered Standing Committees unless approved by Membership)
  • Implement and update operating procedures

Officers

President

  • Automatically ascends after one term as Vice President/President Elect
  • Primary spokesperson
  • Chair all official meetings
  • Recommend Finance Committee Chair to Executive Committee for approval
  • Authority to disperse funds with approval of Secretary/Treasurer

Vice President/President Elect

  • Elected by Membership
  • Act in the absence of the President
  • Chair Nominations and Election Committee
  • Vacancy filled by Member election

Secretary/Treasurer

  • Elected by Membership
  • Three-year term
  • May be re-elected for one subsequent term
  • Maintain all financial records
  • Issue payments
  • Assess dues
  • Recommend Finance Committee Chair to Executive Committee for approval
  • Report financial situation to Executive Committee
  • Report financial situation to Membership at Annual Business Meeting
  • Vacancy filled by Executive Committee interim appointment
  • Authority to disperse funds with approval of President


Directors

Immediate Past President

  • Automatically assumes after one term as President
  • Serve on Nominations and Election Committee

Annual Conference Chair

  • Automatically ascend after one term as Vice Chair
  • Vice Chair recommended by the Conference Chair, appointed by Executive Committee, and announced at Annual Business Meeting of the Membership
  • Incoming Conference Chair (Vice Chair) begins participating as Executive Committee Member immediately after Annual Conference
  • May be asked by President to remain for a subsequent year (Vice Chair may remain or step down)
  • Committee made up of Members in good standing
  • Make meeting schedules, agendas, and minutes or notes accessible to committee members and Executive Committee
  • Organize and carry out Annual Conference
  • Recommend future conference sites
  • Vice Chair vacancy filled by Chair

Communication Committee Chair

  • Automatically ascend after one term as Vice Chair (Vice Chair elected by Membership after one year on Committee)
  • May be asked by President to remain for a subsequent year (Vice Chair may remain or step down)
  • Committee made up of Members in good standing
  • Make meeting schedules, agendas, and minutes or notes accessible to committee members and Executive Committee
  • Develop and maintain digital and print presence
  • Create and implement Communication programs
  • Vice Chair vacancy filled by Member election

Membership Committee Chair

  • Automatically ascend after one term as Vice Chair (Vice Chair elected by Membership after one year on Committee)
  • May be asked by President to remain for a subsequent year (Vice Chair may remain or step down)
  • Make meeting schedules, agendas, and minutes or notes accessible to committee members and Executive Committee
  • Committee includes Membership Delegate
  • Recruit new members
  • Recommend member benefits
  • Ensure that Executive Director maintains official membership list
  • Retain existing members
  • Recommend membership dues structure
  • Recommend regional member activities or events
  • Vice Chair vacancy filled by Member election

Finance Committee Chair

  • Recommended by President and Secretary/Treasurer
  • Approved by Executive Committee
  • Committee made up of Members in good standing
  • Committee members include Secretary/Treasurer, Executive Director (ex officio), and two Members (appointed by President)
  • Make meeting schedules, agendas, and minutes or notes accessible to committee members and Executive Committee
  • Develop annual Association budget to recommend for Membership approval
  • Monitor all expenditures
  • Make necessary reports to Executive Committee and Membership
  • Assure that Association is in compliance with requirements for 501(c)(6) status

Research Committee Chair

  • Automatically ascend after one term as Vice Chair (Vice Chair elected by Membership after one year on Committee)
  • May be asked by President to remain for a subsequent year (Vice Chair may remain or step down)
  • Committee made up of Members in good standing
  • Make meeting schedules, agendas, and minutes or notes accessible to committee members and Executive Committee
  • Promote research and scholarly activities for Membership
  • Establish and edit official publications
  • Maintain a research bibliography and forum
  • Vice Chair vacancy filled by Member election

Membership Delegate

  • Elected by Membership
  • Serves on Membership Committee
  • May be reelected for subsequent terms

Delegate-at-Large

  • Elected by Membership
  • Serves on Executive Committee
  • May be reelected for subsequent terms
  • May be assigned by President to fill committee vacancy or other roles


Executive Director (ex officio)

  • Contractual employee serving at the will of Executive Committee
  • Record and distribute minutes
  • Maintain official records
  • Ensure the orderly conduct of business
  • Strategic planning recommendations
  • Implement goals or action items
